Clinic Volunteer

UCSF Center for Autism Spectrum Disorder and Neurodevelopmental Disorders at the UCSF Mission Bay campus welcomes volunteers willing to dedicate a consistent number of hours per week across at least 6 months. Flexible shifts are available from 9 a.m. every week day to 6 p.m. some nights. Our center is located at 675 18th Street.

Current volunteers and assistants have found their experiences to be valuable. Volunteers gain hands-on experience working with social skills groups for patients of all ages, contributing to the daily administration of the center, scoring psychometric questionnaires, cognitive assessments and autism diagnostic instruments, organizing training workshops for professionals around the world, and assisting with intervention trials and genetic research.

Depending on hours, volunteers sit in on our case conferences where our multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, psychologists, speech pathologists, social workers, and behavior analysts convene to discuss the diagnoses and treatment for our patients. Volunteers may attend weekly Grand Rounds presentations within the Department of Psychiatry. Many of our clinicians also conduct original research related to ASD and NDDs; individuals with research experience and technical skills are especially welcomed to join one of our labs. We seek hard-working and motivated volunteers.

We accept volunteers based on clinical and research needs. Unfortunately, we cannot accept all volunteers who apply to our center.

Volunteers are required to undergo a criminal background check prior to being registered as a volunteer with UCSF.
