Currently recruiting pediatric participants ages 8-16 for a study examining voice, speech and communication, in children with autism and children with typical development. Participants will be compensated $400 for completion of all study procedures, which include diagnostic testing, neuropsychological evaluation, and MEG and MRI scans. We want to learn if a non-invasive treatment called external trigeminal nerve stimulation (eTNS) can help reduce ADHD symptoms in autistic children (7-14 years).
Participation spans 8-12 weeks and includes:
- 4-5 in-person visits at UCSF Mission Bay and 4 brief virtual check-ins
- Nightly use of the eTNS device with a small sticky patch applied to child's forehead
- Randomized assignment (those who start with the sham device may try the active device later)

The Bishop lab at the UCSF Center for ASD and NDDs is performing research to understand the differences in oculomotor movements in children ages 6 to 12, diagnosed with ASD and children with no diagnosis of ASD.
Participants will be compensation with a $50 gift card for completion of all study activities during a one time visit (~1.5 hours). During this study visit, children are asked to wear an eye-tracking device for about 10 minutes and then complete brief IQ and vocabulary measures. Parents will be asked to complete questionnaires about their child's development.
