Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) is a treatment approach with evidence of effectiveness for treating mood and anxiety-related disorders. CBT has also shown evidence of benefiting neurodiverse individuals (i.e., autistic individuals/individuals with autism and individuals with related neurodevelopmental disorders). CBT is a short-term treatment that focuses on teaching specific coping skills to address current problems. CBT differs from other therapy approaches – it focuses on the ways that a person’s thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are connected.

Our Center focuses on providing CBT adapted for the unique learning and cognitive profiles of neurodiverse individuals. We focus on treating co-occurring anxiety and mood conditions. We also treat behavior flexibility to build skills for youth to adapt to changes in preferences and routines, a common challenge among neurodiverse youth.
