Group Treatment

Current Groups

  • This 10-week group provides information, support, and education for parents of children ages 1-6 who have recently been diagnosed with ASD. Parents participate in an expert-led discussion on the most critical topics for families of newly diagnosed children. They learn about autism characteristics, Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), accessing services in the community, promoting resilience, and how to begin improving communication and reducing problem behaviors.
  •  - Early Intervention for Social Communication: A parent-mediated intervention for young children (1-5) with ASD and related social communication delays. This group is delivered by both our psychologists and our speech language pathologist. Services are most often delivered in person. Telehealth services are available for families from rural communities without access to autism specific services in their area. This treatment is for toddlers and young children with the goal of improving communication, language, play, and engagement. We use a parent education and coaching model grounded in the naturalistic developmental behavioral intervention (NDBI) treatment paradigm. Specifically, the intervention utilizes components of Pivotal Response Treatment (PRT) and Early Start Denver Model (ESDM).
  • Regulating Together (Ages 8-18): This in-person group occurs twice a week for five weeks. RT is a neurobehavioral emotion regulation program, serving youth with developmental disorders who are also experiencing mental health or behavioral concerns. Skills training for children and adolescents includes relaxation, anger management, emotion identification, program solving, social skills and cognitive restructuring techniques. Skills training for parents include crisis management and safety planning techniques, behavior management, and coaching skills to implement the material taught to the children. Coaching will assist in generalizing the skills taught in the program to settings outside of the program and continued use of the material once the program ends.
